More questions? Here are the details.

What happens if I sell my house before the solar loan is paid off?
The loan can usually be paid off at closing with the proceeds from the sale, or in some cases transferred to the new buyer. Solar adds value to your home, which typically covers the remaining balance easily.
Will my solar panels work during a power outage?
Standard grid-tied systems shut down during an outage for safety reasons, preventing electricity from back-feeding into lines being repaired. To keep power running, you need a battery backup system.
Do solar panels damage my roof?
No, when installed correctly by professionals, they actually protect the portion of the roof they cover from weather and UV wear. We use industry-standard waterproof mounting hardware to ensure zero leaks.
How long do solar panels actually last?
Most top-tier panels are warrantied to produce power for 25 years, but they don't just stop working at year 26. They typically continue generating electricity for 30-40 years, just at a slightly reduced efficiency over time.
What is net metering and how does it work?
Net metering allows you to send excess electricity your panels produce back to the grid in exchange for credits on your electric bill. You use those credits at night or during winter months when your system produces less.
Are there hidden costs with going solar?
With a reputable installer, no. Your quote should include all equipment, labor, permitting, and interconnection fees. Be wary of quotes that don't include electrical panel upgrades if your older home requires them.
Do I need to clean my solar panels?
In Massachusetts, normal rainfall and snowmelt are usually enough to keep panels clean. You generally don't need to get up on your roof to wash them, and doing so without proper equipment can be dangerous.
What's the difference between a string inverter and microinverters?
A string inverter links panels together (if one gets shaded, the whole system's output drops). Microinverters are attached to each individual panel, maximizing output even if one panel is shaded. I primarily use microinverters.
Can I add more panels later if my usage goes up?
Yes, but it requires a new permit and interconnection agreement. It's usually much more cost-effective to size the system correctly from the start, factoring in future additions like an EV or heat pump.
