The Paperwork Side of Going Solar in MA Is Substantial — I Handle All of It.

I'm Dave Simmer. I've designed and installed over 1,800 solar systems across Massachusetts since 2011. Putting panels on a roof is only half the job. The other half is navigating building departments, utility companies, and state incentive programs.

I handle all the building permits, utility interconnection agreements, SMART program applications, and net metering enrollment for you. You won't have to chase down town inspectors or sit on hold with National Grid. It's all included in my process.

    Why Local Permitting Knowledge Matters

    • Every town is different. What Scituate requires for a building permit isn't exactly the same as what Duxbury wants. I know the local building departments across the South Shore, which keeps your project moving.
    • Interconnection timelines matter. National Grid and Eversource have strict engineering and application requirements. I submit clean, accurate paperwork so your system gets Permission to Operate (PTO) without unnecessary delays.
    • Incentive enrollment is critical. Massachusetts has strong incentives like the SMART program (a fixed per-kWh monthly payment) and true 1:1 retail net metering. I make sure your applications are filed correctly so you get every dollar you're owed.

    What I Actually Do

I'm independent, which means you deal directly with me. I prepare the structural and electrical engineering documents, submit the permit applications, coordinate the inspections, and file the interconnection paperwork with your utility.

When it's time for the installation, I use local, licensed crews that I've personally vetted. We do the work right, and we make sure the paperwork matches the reality on your roof.

    Honest Costs and Numbers

All permitting, engineering, and interconnection fees are included in my project pricing. There are no hidden administrative fees or surprise charges for pulling a permit.

When I give you a quote for residential solar or commercial solar, it covers everything from the initial design to the day you flip the switch. You can read more about what to expect in my Massachusetts solar incentives guide and my SMART program guide.

    Is This Right For You?

If you want a hands-off experience where the administrative headaches are managed by an expert, this is exactly how I operate. If solar doesn't make sense for your home because of shading or roof condition, I'll tell you that too during our free consultation. I won't pull a permit for a system that won't perform.
